Governing Board

The Governing Board for Salt College is made up of individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and includes Professionals, parents, partner organisations, and representatives from the local community. This ensures Salt College has the required level of support, challenge, scrutiny and professional support to oversee the ongoing development of the college and the delivery of high-quality education for our learners.

As a Governing Board, we act in the best interests of the college as a whole – learners, parents, and staff. Our role is strategic, with the day-to-day operational running of the college being the responsibility of the Directors and the Senior Leadership Team.

Members of the Governing Board are not employed by the college and are volunteering their skills, experience and expertise to support the growth of our College. Many members are in full-time employment, run their own businesses and practices. Therefore, aim to be actively involve them in as many aspects of college life wherever possible, including attending ceremonies, parent events, and other college gatherings.

Meet the board

Richard Dwyer

Richard is from an arts background and still a practicing artist. Richard's experience of working with adults and young people with additional needs spans 20 years. Richards received a Doctorate in Philosophy which partly looked at the history of racism and discrimination and worked for a time as a Diversity Adviser in East Kent College. I then went on to work as Head of Additional Learning in Canterbury College, moving thereafter to Supajam to take on the role of Director of SEND.

Sarah Winn

Sarah has successfully worked in theatre for over 18 years. She trained at the Oxford School of Drama and The School of Physical Theatre. Her acting credits include The Jeweller directed by Paul Jepson, in London’s West End, and The Good Earth, Wales Millennium Centre, as well as touring a one woman show for 3 months. She moved from London to Kent 6 years ago, since then her work has been focused on creating theatre and directing. In 2022 Sarah created No one Here is Me, with support from the Arts Council and The Marlowe Theatre. No one Here is Me is a powerful play created from real life interviews that highlights and exposes many of the complex issues that are affecting men’s mental health. It is a balance of loss and survival to create hope. No word in this play is fictional. Sarah created the play after the devastating loss of her cousin, Gar in 2021. Sarah's passion is bringing theatre to the people, using creativity to become better at communicating and filling the world with compassion.

Nicola Kelly

Nicola Kelly is an experienced education leader with more than two decades of service across further education, safeguarding, SEND, and governance. She currently serves as Director of Student Experience and Safeguarding within a large FE college group, where she provides strategic leadership across multiple campuses, overseeing behaviour and attitudes, safeguarding, student experience, bursary budgets, and cross‑college support functions. Her work is rooted in a commitment to improving outcomes, raising standards, and ensuring every learner receives high‑quality, inclusive support.

Maria Henthorne

Maria is currently working for the NHS as an Emotional Wellbeing Practitioner. Maria works across local primary and secondary schools to deliver mental health support to primary children, secondary children, parents as well as educational settings as part of the whole school approach to mental health. Maria have been a qualified EMHP for two years, this was following a completion of my Post Graduation Diploma in Education Mental Health at Kings College London in December 2023. From March 2024 I have been an accredited member of the British Psychological Society (BPS)

Maria has always been passionate in my work with young people; especially those that are faced with adversity and challenges to their mental health. Maria has worked for KCC as youth support worker, a teaching assistant and a pastoral support manager.

When Maria is not working, she likes to keep active by going to the gym and running. Enjoying completing running events and over the last two years, completed a marathon in 2024 and a half marathon in 2025. Maria am married with two adult children and two grandchildren.

Liam Wright

Liam Wright is a commercially minded Financial Advisor and former senior sales leader known for building long‑term client relationships and delivering exceptional results across both financial services and enterprise sectors. With a background spanning wealth management, strategic account leadership, and high‑value digital transformation sales, he combines strong analytical judgement with a consultative, people‑focused approach. Liam is recognised for his ability to simplify complex decisions, design value‑driven solutions, and consistently exceed performance expectations. Outside of work, he’s a keen sportsman and an avid traveller with a passion for new experiences and personal growth.
